The popularity of Halloween in Salem is now out of control. In 2022 this square was wall-to-wall people and cops everywhere. I can no longer necessarily recommend a visit as the magic has been diluted. The mobs of tourists on 10/31/22 were largely not in costume and the vibe was crowds and commerce, sucking the air out of the mood and theater.
